I HAVE RETURNED!

Well, I never meant to be absent for so long. doesn't seem I was missed though as I still have no comments.

A LOT has changed though. I never was able to repair the afore noted computer. A friendly pc repair man let me return a power supply that didn't fix it. Apparently it's something in the motherboard.

Thats fine though, I'm now using my wifes computer (yes I finally got married. Dec 22)
I have my own computer as well (wonderful gift from my BIL (brother-in-law))
It's pretty nice (better than the old emachines) over a gig of ram and I found a good deal on a video card at wal mart radeon 9550 256mb with hdmi and s-vid outputs. the processor is the thing slowing it down now I think. I forget what its got but I still have my emachines if it's still works...

I have dialup now... that is... hard to say. never imagined I would be back on 56k.
and it would have to be now, during the big boom of youtube and everything else that I can't do.

My electronics job is soon to be no more. I found a new job as my current job's pay isn't enough, the persistent nag for more production is idiotic for the pay with no word of increases (even though I'd get about 50 cents more in 2 months, I still wouldn't be making money)

On May 7th almost a year after starting my current job I will be starting a new one. The company makes paper or something like that. putting it on these HUGE rolls that would crush you (crushed by paper, thats an odd thought) I'll be taking rolls and putting them onto a machine called an "extruder" I forget exactly what it does, coats the paper in a poly coating or something. Starting pay is about 2.50/hr more than what I make now and it's half as far (driving two hours to work and back gets old fast and near $3.00 gas prices don't help)
benefits are way better. so we'll see how it goes. and if it doesn't work out or I don't like it, I have a backup plan this time.

I guess thats everything in The World Of Brandon for now.

The Magic Smoke

My computer kept crashing a couple nights ago. I vacuumed the dust off the CPU fan (it was pretty dusty) I thought maybe it was overheating. I have done this numerous times over the years and never had any problems. I tried to turn it on... nothing. I unplugged it from the back, and plugged it in again, and it came on, but only sort of. The power light didn't come on. The CPU fan spun but that was it as far as I could tell.

then bad came to worse...

I smelled something familiar yet very unwelcome-smoke.
I quickly hit the switch on the surge protector. Then sat back in horror, thinking of how this happened. The only thing I can figure is that static from the vacuum hose got to my PC (why I never had this happen before I don't know. It never occurred to me really.) so now I have to find out where it's fried and replace it I guess. I hope since the power light/button doesn't work it is the power supply, but I doubt it will be that simple. I won't have the money to fix it for who knows how long...

I remember in Electronics class we would often fry various components (usually resistors) many times it was intentional, a few times it was due to trying to overpowering a laser pointer or something. My friend and I would joke that once the magic smoke came out of a component, it would never work the same if it worked at all. Those were good times-these are not.

so, that is what's happening in The World Of Brandon

Yet another new (for me) digital toy

Well, I'm typing this on two computers. Sound strange? yea it is, and pointless for the moment. I have begun playing with RealVNC which allows me to view and control another computer from my own. So... I'm testing it out by blogging through the family computer (downstairs) from my computer (in my bedroom) I think it's super. Although so far I have not been successful in getting it to work completely remotely (on computer not on the same network) but I'm figuring it out.

you can find the program or one like it at the following sites:

TightVNC (the smaller freer version that is good for slower connections)
RealVNC (as the name should imply this is the real version which is a bit less free)

well, I'm done for now
goodnight.

Changes Ahead Mateys!!

Well, I have not posted on here in a while. So I guess I should get you caught up...

I had an interview Monday at a place called Palco Telecom. They repair Motorola cell phones mainly. I passed my soldering test (even though I have not used a decent iron in close to two years) and my interviews went very well. My previous experience seemed to help me out a lot.
I'm really exited about it all. The pay isn't really what I'd like to be making, but it's better than what I currently make, and it's only a start, I'll get raises, and benefits.

I passed the drug test and background check with flying colors :-) that was good news (I would have been very supprised if either returned bad results)

on to my next thing real quick then I'm off to bed-I know, I know but it's 4:30AM and I have to work tomorrow.

I modded my Cold Heat soldering iron (if you can call it that) It still doesn't work that well, and I don't recommend them, but if you have one and you want to try something simple to perhaps give it more power and save alittle battery juice, try disconnecting the light LED on the front. I just clipped one wire at the connection to the LED in case I needed to put it back on, it still works.

I saved this as a draft and finished it up today, my dad was up getting ready for work.

Thats all for this segment of The World Of Brandon

cool new toy

well, I downloaded skype about a month ago, but haven't really used it, and I don't want to pay for calling POTS.

ALAS!

I have found the solution, much like the old/free netzero it is an ad supported program. but never mind that, it's not so bad.
it's called Adcalls just check it out, download it and call yourself or anyone. I just called my cell, without having to make an account or anything, I just entered my email address.
so far the ads are not pop ups, they are self contained in the prog. You can even make money if you reffer people and they use the coupons. so anyway, I think it's pretty sweet. you never know when you might need to phone someone overseas or across the boarder.

Happy Birthday!

Yesterday my friend Kyle gave me a supprise.

He let me borrow his Xbox a few weeks ago (since he has an xbox 360) and yesterday we were talking about it, and he turned to leave and said "happy birthday Brandon." "what?" I replied,
"just think about it..." I was shocked and said "you really mean-" "Brandon, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

just like that. so now I own an Xbox. and thats that.

man I just love Google Earth, it's endless fun. I can have an adventure anytime, and go ANYWHERE in the whole world. If you don't have it, YOU NEED IT!
it's better than just using a map (I wish I had a laptop so I could take it with me.) because you can find the exact place you are looking for. In city's most restaurants and buildings have been pinpoint marked by other Google Earth users, you can even mark your own places and upload them for others to see.

well, thats all for this time. I promise I'll soon get to work on uploading something cool like a comic or something.
